MURKO TRANSCRIBER 1.0
Turns audio recordings into text — on your own Mac, nothing goes to the internet.
Ukrainian and English are recognised by themselves; for other languages,
choose the language in the New Transcription panel.

WHAT YOUR MAC NEEDS
  • A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 or newer). Intel Macs won't work.
  • macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer.
  • 16 GB of memory or more (24 GB is comfortable).
  • About 25 GB of free disk space.
  • Internet for the one-time setup (about 17 GB download). After that it works offline.
  • An Administrator account on this Mac (the setup installs a few standard tools).

HOW TO INSTALL (20 minutes to 2 hours, mostly downloading)
  1. Unzip the download (double-click the .zip) if your Mac hasn't already.
Don't open anything inside the "engine" folder — the installer does that.

  2. Open "Install Murko Transcriber.command". macOS asks you to confirm once,
because Murko is a free app that is not registered with Apple:

       macOS 15 Sequoia or newer:
         a) Double-click it. A message says Apple could not verify it — click Done.
         b) Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click
"Open Anyway" next to "Install Murko Transcriber.command".
         c) Click "Open Anyway" again and enter your Mac password.

       macOS 14 Sonoma:
RIGHT-CLICK the file, choose Open, then click Open in the message.

  3. A Terminal window opens and explains each step. Press Return to start.
     • If it asks for your password, type your Mac login password and press
Return — the letters stay invisible while you type, that's normal.
     • If a window offers to install "Command Line Tools", click Install,
wait until it finishes, then open the installer again.
     • If macOS asks whether Terminal may access your Downloads folder,
       click Allow.
  4. When it says "All done!", Murko Transcriber opens by itself.

Keep the Mac plugged in and awake during the setup.
If anything stops, just run the installer again — it continues where it left off.

HOW TO USE
  • Drag an audio file (m4a, mp3, wav, mp4…) into the Murko window, or press +.
  • Choose a model (Automatic is best for most files) and, for languages other
than Ukrainian and English, the language. Press Start transcription.
  • When it's done, press Open to read and listen, Save as .txt to keep a text file,
or the Share button to send it.
  • You can fix any line: click the ✎ next to it, type, press Return.
  • The first time, macOS asks whether Murko may use your Documents and Downloads
folders and send notifications — click Allow.

Transcripts are saved in Documents › CallsRawFiles. Each recording gets a folder
  with Transcript.txt and Summary.md.

TO UNINSTALL
Open "Uninstall Murko Transcriber.command" the same way as the installer
(step 2) and type yes. It moves Murko to the Trash and keeps your transcripts.
It asks separately before removing the text model (gemma4) from Ollama.
